I burned up my brand new XPR400 with this little gadget. I trimmed off maybe 1/4 inch off of 3 doors. By the 3rd door the motor was sounding rough. The motor burned up the next day using it with a cut off wheel. This attachment makes the unit get realllly hot. The tool is turning a really large blade compared to anything else you turn with it. To top that off with the end of the blade isnt supported by anything it just fits in a hole and rides metal on metal. Dremel says the blade is designed to last as long as the attachement 500 BF. I did about 200 and its pretty much ground off (Very old Pine).

I think if you keep the motor well blown out. Dont over tax it and plane a fair amount of 3/4 or less wide your good to go. It really works well. 3 or 4 10 minute sessions on a 1.5 inch door will prove to much for this little tool IMO.

I'm going to see if Dremel will honor the warranty. I will let you all know.

There are just too many problems with this stand to make it useable for someone who makes money with tools. It is not nearly as easy to collapse and erect as the gravity folding stands that are out now, the extensions take a lot of time to set correctly because they sag the further out you go, and you have to adjust the supports each time you move them. You have to put weight on them to set them up which makes it much harder to set the supports. The supports are tightened with a system that really sticks, sticks so much that it is very difficult to adjust them up and down. When you tighten them they are fine - if you are lucky enough to adjust them perfectly. This stand may work fine for most, but not if you move it often and are particular. My Rigid is easy to fold and erect and the extensions and supports are easy to set up. I haven't tried the Bosch gravity miter stand yet, but it looks much better. 1.) Guide bushings would NOT fit into the shoulder recess on this base. I scraped the opening with a razor knife until guide bushings would seat.

2.) Base is not flat. I am going to mount it on the router & sand it flat. I am hoping that I can maintain parallelism, but I' not so sure that's possible.

One other reviewer suggested using a Porter Cable base & redrill to fit. That sounds like a good option.

12-28-09 update. It took 5 minutes to sand flat. Not a big deal. Total rework time (with item #1 above) was 10 minutes. This was quicker than making my own base. Considering the amount of time it takes me to tune up other new woodworking tolls, this was easy and nothing much to complain about. If I could change my *star* rating, I'd bump it up to 3-1/2 or 4. I have had my drill for 18 months and have worn out 4 batteries, if they weren't giving them away I would be very upset. Overall I still like the lightness of the batteries but that is it. They really need to come out with an improvement on this model. If I have a tough job for the battery tool I reach for the old NI CAD it heavy but it gets the job done. The "work hard till the end" is ok but it would be nice if you got a little warning that you were about to loose power.
